National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - 2023

On this 30th of September, a day for truth and reconciliation, I want to promote some of the works hosted by the National Film Board of Canada.

Searching the National Film Board of Canada

I have watched a few of the videos, and there are many about Indigenous people and their cultures. Here are three links to searches for ‘Indigenous’ using the search feature at nfb.ca:

Two Films I Have Seen

The first video I remember watching in grade school. It is a short animated feature about the changing of the seasons and love between two people.

Summer Legend

The second I watched a few years ago and is a short biography of a women who lived through the residential schools, the government’s marriage polices, and the struggle to retain indigenous languages.

My 2023 Watch List

This September 30th, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I am watching more of the films hosted by the National Film Board of Canada. There are many other Indigenous media resources, but I will leave the showcasing of those TV stations, movies, newspapers, radio, and internet sites to individuals who have more experience with them.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women

Finally, I saw three red dresses driving home yesterday. I have attempted to post videos that tend towards the reconciliation aspects of September 30th this year. However, there is much work to be done in learning about the truth, so our country can work towards reconciliation from a place of knowledge. I feel I should include this video because I was unaware of the symbolism of the red dress. It contains a viewer warning due to the content.
